Gentle mobility support for senior dogs

For the dog who’s still got walks left in him.

He hasn’t given up on the morning walk. He’s just waiting for a bit of a hand. GoldenStep™ is a support harness designed alongside canine physiotherapists — for hounds who need a steady hand on the stairs, into the car, and back up the garden path.

“He’s just getting on a bit.”

We say it with a shrug — the way our parents said it about us. But slowing down and being in pain aren’t quite the same thing, and most older dogs are far too polite to tell us the difference.

Happily, a great deal of what looks like old age is simply a body that could do with a hand. That’s the whole of what we do here.

Strollhound · Grow old in silence

Our dogs grow old in silence.

They don’t complain about the stairs that got steeper, or the bed that’s too hard on tired hips, or the cold mornings that make their joints feel like rusted hinges. They just fold themselves a little smaller, and carry on loving us anyway.

You’ve probably seen it without naming it.

The bottom of the stairs has become a pause, not a sprint.

He looks at the sofa, weighs up the jump, and lies on the rug instead — pretending he meant to.

Getting into the car is a lift now. And your back knows it.

Some mornings, the back legs just aren’t quite ready.

If you recognise him here, please hear this: you’re not late, and you’re not failing him. You’re the one who noticed — which makes you exactly the sort of person he needed. The rest is just a matter of the right bit of kit.

Who GoldenStep™ is for

You'll probably recognise him here.

Most of what looks like old age is simply a body that could do with a hand. GoldenStep was made for the quiet, everyday version of that — not the dramatic kind. If any of this sounds like your old hound, it was built with him in mind.

  Arthritis & hip dysplasia

The morning stiffness, the slow rise from the rug, the stairs he eyes before he climbs.

  Post-surgery recovery

A steady hand after a TPLO, FHO, cruciate repair or spinal operation, while he finds his feet again.

  Degenerative myelopathy & IVDD

Support for the days his back legs aren't quite answering — without dragging or rushing him.

  General senior weakness

Helping a twelve- or thirteen-year-old keep the routines he isn't ready to give up.

  Soft-tissue injury & strain

A gentle hand through a sprain or a strain, so he rests the right amount and no more.

Stairs, the car, the morning walk

For the hound who still wants to go — he just needs a steadier hand getting there.

If he's recovering from surgery or newly diagnosed, do have a quick word with your vet first. We're glad to help in the meantime — send us a photo of him any time.

Why most of it doesn’t work

Most “senior” kit was never made for senior dogs.

When the back legs first went, we went looking too. What we found was a bit of a mess. Cheap foam sold as “orthopaedic”. Harnesses built for strong young dogs and squeezed onto stiff old ones. Pages of promises written, you sense, by people who’d never sat on a cold kitchen floor at 2am with a dog who couldn’t get comfortable.

Proper support for an older dog isn’t complicated. It just has to be made for them.

Shaped for an older body

Not a young dog’s harness in a bigger size.

Padded where it presses

So lifting helps him, instead of digging in.

On in under a minute

Because a dog who can’t stand for long shouldn’t have to.

Strong where it lifts

The hardware you stop thinking about, because you trust it.

We couldn’t find a harness that did all four. So we made one.

Meet GoldenStep™.

A support harness for the dog who’s earned an easier morning.

Share the load, don’t haul it. Two padded lift handles — one over the chest, one over the hips — so you steady him without bending double. Kinder to his joints, kinder to your back.

Cool, even in August. Breathable 3D-mesh padding spreads the pressure across his body instead of pinching one spot.

On before the kettle’s boiled. Colour-coded straps (front, back) and quick buckles — no puzzle to solve on a bad morning.

The bit you never have to think about. Metal hardware tested to three times his weight. Solid where it counts.

Seen on the dark-by-four walks. 360° reflective trim for the winter evenings.

The founder with Bramble, a chocolate Labrador, in natural light

It started with a dog called Bramble.

He was a chocolate Labrador, twelve years old, when I finally understood something I should have seen earlier: our dogs grow old in silence. One November night his back legs gave way beneath him, and I realised I’d been missing the signs for months.

I went looking for things that might actually help him — and found cheap foam, harnesses made for young dogs, and promises from brands whose faces I’d never see. So I built what I couldn’t find. Every GoldenStep is chosen with one question in mind: would this have helped Bramble?

We’re a small company. We probably always will be. We answer our own emails, and we tend to know our customers by their dogs’ names before we know their own.

From the people who use it

Real older dogs. Real older owners. Families finding their walks again.

Bud's nearly twelve and his back legs had started to give way on the stairs. The harness has genuinely given him a new lease of life — he's getting in and out of the car again, and our morning walks on the common are back to a proper length. Wish we'd ordered it months ago.

Beautifully made, and you can tell straight away. The padding is generous without being bulky, and the stitching feels like it'll outlast the dog, frankly. Monty doesn't fuss when I put it on, which says everything — he's normally quite particular.

I'd been doing my back in lifting Tilly into the boot every morning. The handle placement makes such a difference — I'm not stooping or twisting anymore, and she seems far less anxious about being picked up. Honestly a relief for both of us.
